Vinyl and mesh banners are both used for large-format signage, but they behave differently in wind and different display environments. Choosing the right material depends on where the banner will hang, how long it will be displayed and how much airflow the location receives.
What is a vinyl banner?
Vinyl banners have a solid printable surface, which makes them a good choice when you want strong color and a clean, continuous design. They are commonly used for storefronts, events, promotions, grand openings and indoor or outdoor displays.
Perfect Print offers 13 oz Custom Vinyl Banners with full-color printing.
What is a mesh banner?
Mesh banner material contains small openings that allow more air to pass through. That can make mesh useful for some windy outdoor installations, fences and larger exposed displays. The tradeoff is that the printed image can appear slightly less solid than on standard vinyl.
When vinyl is the better choice
- Storefront promotions
- Indoor events and trade shows
- Grand openings and sales
- Photo-heavy or highly detailed artwork
- Displays where wind is not a major concern
When mesh may be worth considering
- Fences and open outdoor areas
- Locations exposed to frequent wind
- Large temporary outdoor displays where airflow is important
Design matters for both materials
Use large, readable text, strong contrast and the highest-resolution artwork available. Keep the message short enough to understand from the expected viewing distance.
